Henry is 1 Month Today!

My lil monkey is one month old today! It seems like only yesterday we brought him home from the hospital. Where does the time go? Today, he went to see his pediatrician for his 1 month check up. He did an awesome job! He was so good:) He weighed in at 10 pounds and was 21 inches long.  He was only fussy after receiving his Hep B shot, but who wouldn't be after receiving a nasty shot. Currently, Henry likes to have staring contests; he will follow mommy and daddy with his eyes and the fish on his swing mobile; he is working on lifting and turning his head, though practicing this sometimes makes him angry; and he is starting to smile as well as coo.  Recently, we started giving him a bottle once a day to start preparing him for when we go out or when I go back to work. We also let Henry use a  pacifier, but most of the time he spits it right back out unless he's in a crazy sucking mood.

Henry's First Outing - Franklin Cider Mill

Mommy and daddy took Henry on his first official outing today to the Franklin Cider Mill.  We went early to beat the crowds. Mommy and daddy enjoyed some donuts, while Henry slept all cozy in his stroller. Later, we went for a walk around Quarton Lake Park in Birmingham.  It was so nice to get out and enjoy the beautiful fall day with my hubby and lil man.

The First Two Weeks...

Our first two weeks have been a roller coaster, but I wouldn't trade them for anything. We brought Henry home on August 30th, 2011.  Mike decided to go back to work on Thursday and Friday, so that he could be off again  most of the next week. Thankfully, Michael's mother was able to stay with me the days Michael was working. She was a great help and nice company! Henry had been a great breast feeder from the start, but quickly got lazy when I was told I needed to supplement every feeding because he had lost 8% of his birth weight in the hospital due to Jaundice (our Jaundice scare was over once we left the hospital).  Not wanting to use a bottle right away or formula, I started pumping and using a feeding tube near my nipple where he could suck the supplemental breast milk out while he was breast feeding.  Henry quickly got smart and decided if I can get this the easy way, why latch on. We also tired cup feeding, but had the same result. So I decided to ditch supplementing and my mother-in-law and I worked hard to get him to latch again. That Saturday I had to go back in for a weight check for Henry. Since he didn't gain weight or lose weight since his last check, my pediatrician wanted us to supplement feedings a few times a day.  Like a stupid person, I wanted to do what the pediatrician wanted and decided to supplement with a syringe.  Of course, I had the same result again a lazy eater. So I ditched supplementing yet again. Henry once again learned to latch on and is eating well now.  We were suppose to go in for a weight check on Wednesday, but couldn't because we still did not have power.

Which leads me to the crazy storm that blew through our neighborhood Saturday night (Sept. 3). I was not home at the time. I was out with my mother for a couple of hours to run a few errands and pick up some dinner for us. While I was gone, we had crazy rain, wind, and hail.  Which didn't happen in Royal Oak where I was with my mom.  Thankfully, Mike and Henry were okay.  Parts of trees were don't every where on my street and the surrounding neighborhood.  No ones homes on my street where damaged though.  We didn't lose power until the next day.  The power had to be turned off due to some of my neighbors having down power lines in their backyards.  Our power wasn't restore until Wednesday night. Our nights were spent by candle light and using flashlights.  One day, we went to Grandma Wilusz's house for the day to hang out. Henry wasn't phased by the power loss though since he is breast fed and we didn't start his cloth diapering until Monday (Sept. 5).

Henry also had his second photo shoot with his Aunt Abby before we lost our power on Sunday (Sept. 4). He was a trooper and Aunt Abby did an awesome job!

Now we are setting into our new life, with many adventures to come. We love our little monkey so much! He is a great eater, pooper, and sleeper:)

Coming Home...

Hospital Visitors

Henry had many visitors after he was born.  His visitors were Grammy Matthews; Grandma Wilusz; Grandpa Wilusz & Kathy; Uncle Ronnie & soon to be Aunt Makala, Alex and Monica; Uncle Paul & Aunt Julie; Great Aunt Dori, Josh, Jessica, & Noah; Great Aunt Joyce & Miles; my best friend Kathy; & Rachel & Lillian.  Henry enjoyed all of his visitors and received many thoughtful gifts:) He received flowers, a baseball mitt, a hot cuddle monkey, outfits, blankets, a giraffe, bible, books, and a plush, blue puppy. What a lucky guy to have so many people who love and adore him!

Henry's Birth Day

Henry Michael Steven Wilusz was born on August 27, 2011 at 1:08 pm by c-section after 30 hours of labor. Labor and delivery was not the experience I expected.  I started having weird pains as I was getting ready to go into work on Friday, but thought nothing of them because it was a week before my due date and I was busy getting my room and sub prepared.  As the day progressed, I had 1-3 contractions an hour. Then while I was out to lunch with my sub they started getting more frequent.  By the time we got back to school, we started keeping track of them as we chatted and got things done.  They were about 5 - 10 minutes apart. I informed my hubby of what was happening and told him I would keep him updated. Near 2 pm, I got worried and decided to call my mom to ask her if she thought I going into labor or if she thought it was false labor.  She thought it maybe false labor, but she wasn't sure either. Up until now, I didn't have contractions just mild cramps here and there.  Then I didn't know if I should go to my dentist appointment at 3:15, but I wanted to keep the appointment because I had had it for 6 months. So I decided to go and get my teeth cleaned. My mom came with me just in case I needed to go to the hospital.  During my appointment, the contractions dropped off a bit.  After the appointment, my mom and I decided to go to Somerset to drop by Victoria Secret. While we were there the contractions started coming on stronger and 3-5 minutes apart. At that point, I called Mike and told him he better come home, that this could be it. When he got home we called the doctor. Unfortunately, my doctor was not on call. Instead, I got to meet the doctor from the practice he partners with.  She said it sounded like I was in labor, but to wait a half hour to an hour just to make sure.  So I took a hot shower and waited.  When they became 2 -3 minutes apart, we went to the hospital.  When we got there at 8:30 pm, I found out I was 3-4 cm dilated and they admitted me. Then to make to make a long story short. I was 5 cm dilated by 1 am. I couldn't take the pain any more so I got an epidural. I was totally dilated between 2 and 3am, but they had my pushing too early much to my obs dismay.  When my ob realized I was -1 instead of +1 she was not happy.  So I got more meds and tried to rest. By 10ish, I was pushing again, but could  not get him out even though we could see the head.  I was just too exhausted and my ob thought he could either be stuck or I was just too tired. So I told them to go ahead with the c-section. I cried the entire time. But in the end I got my beautiful baby boy;)

39 Weeks...

Yesterday, mommy turned out to be a head case.  I decided to call my doctor because on Wednesday my ankles decided to swell up huge, I had pain in my left foot, ankle, and calf, I was nauseous and I had a bad headache (all of which are not normal for me).  When I woke up on Wednesday, my ankles were still bad and my left one still throbbed so I decided to stay home from work  until I could contact my doctor.  When I talked to him, he suggested that I go to the hospital. This really up set me because no one was around to go with me (stupid hormones). After talking to my husband and mom, my mom said she would come home from work and go with me (best mom in the world!).  So we went to labor and delivery triage so that I could get checked out.  After being examined, they decided to do a Doppler on my legs for blood clotting (family history), though they said my ankles were some of the best they have seen and he said my leg pulses seemed clear.  After the Doppler was performed, they found nothing.  Of course I was happy and I knew baby Willy was okay and I just had to tough it out.  Before I left, the attending did an ultra sound on my belly to make sure my fluid levels were okay and to check out the the baby.  I found out my fluid levels were great and baby Willy was okay.  I also found out the weight of baby Willy.  The attending said he is about 7 pounds 14 ounce:)  So we will see how close that is to his actual weight when he is born!
